Large Office Fit Out
Wiggle are a leading global online retailer of outdoor and sporting goods and required a complete fit out solution for their new offices in the Lakeside 1000 complex near Portsmouth. Everything including electrical, air conditioning, IT network cabling, furniture and carpets was required and 2TECK were appointed as the main contractor for the project.
The new 1000sqm office area, designed to accommodate approximately 120 people and occupying one floor of the larger Lakeside 1000 building, is mainly open plan but with some separate meeting rooms and canteen area.
2Tecks specialist air conditioning technical team designed and installed a heating and cooling system to the customer’s requirements taking into account all the factors that could affect the heat load of the area. The existing building system was not suitable for the client’s additional requirements so a supplemental independent system was required. Our newly installed Daikin VRV air conditioning system in the large open plan area consists of 7 concealed ducted units above the suspended ceiling distributed via 40 swirl diffuser grills which creates an even distribution of air flow ensuring a consistent temperature throughout the office. In the meeting rooms, to allow for more economical ad-hoc use of the air conditioning facility, we installed individual “split systems” consisting of single ceiling cassette air conditioning units with their own external condenser units. All of the external air conditioning condenser units and other external plant materials needed to be located on the roof top of this 4 storey building. This equipment was crane lifted into position out of hours and entailed extensive health and safety considerations along with onsite traffic management. A detailed risk assessment and method statement was produced and working closely with the onsite facilities and health and safety teams ensured everything was completed safely and with the minimum of disruption to the site.
The new office was supplied with 108 desks all of which required an electrical supply. In addition to this, the meeting rooms, kitchen area and server rooms all required their own independent electrical circuits. Our electrical division created a detailed plan for the installation which included new basket tray installed above the suspended ceiling and a new bespoke cable management system to each of the desk locations with new floor boxes installed into each of the meeting rooms. The server room was provided with new dedicated 32amp supplies. New “feature lighting” was supplied and installed into the new kitchen areas.
In the new server room our communications division installed a new HP (Intelligent Series) network cabinet with APC uninterruptible power supply connected to the 32amp supply. We installed a new OM3 multimode fibre optic link back to Wiggle’s existing data network infrastructure with all cores fully OTDR tested. Each of the 108 desk positions and floor boxes were provided with a twin Cat6 network outlet cabled back to the server room. Cable management for the Cat6 cabling included an allowance for future expansion and flexibility should the desk layout change in the future. New wall mounted LED screens were also installed, each with network connectivity and a digital coaxial TV connection feed linking to the existing building TV distribution system.
Other parts of this complex project included installing a new kitchen with all associated electrical and mechanical services, carpeting the entire area and relocating a glazed walling system and furniture into the new office area all of which was completed by one of our partner companies and managed by a dedicated 2TECK project manager.
